Home      About BioPRYN®
BioPRYN® was developed in the United States by leading researcher Dr. Garth Sasser at the University of Idaho.
Cattle and Bison:
After artificial insemination (A.I.) or natural breeding and conception, or after embryo transfer, the placenta containing the embryo develops to a long filamentous structure. Binucleated cells begin to develop on the surface of the placenta before the third week after conception. These cells produce PSPB.
The cells are migratory; they leave the placenta and enter the uterus. Once there they break apart, delivering PSPB to the maternal circulation. PSPB can be detected in some cows early in the third week.
Timing of the BioPRYN® sample is important to assure 97 percent accuracy on a herd basis. After breeding, one must wait to sample blood at or after 28 days. The lactating cow also must be 73 days after calving to remove residual PSPB of the previous pregnancy from the circulation. Embryos that have been transferred need two more days for development and thus dams are sampled at 32 DAYS OF EMBRYO AGE.
BENEFITS:
  • Allows the veterinarian to concentrate on medical and management procedures.
  • Assures precise pregnancy testing using veterinary/laboratory techniques.
  • BioPRYN® is convenient from sampling to recording:
  • Testing can be conducted on the producer'sschedule around other demands and weather.
Results may be downloaded into management software.
    Eliminates on-site quality control concerns.
Provides more economical results than other tests
  • Safer for embryos-- commonly 2% to 11% of embryos die with palpation methods.
  • Reduce feedingcosts associated with open cows.
  • Ensure pregnant cows are not sent to sale barn.
  • Ensure pregnant cows for sale or delivery earlier with earlier scheduling ofsales.
  • Reduce detection error concerns with BioPRYN® . Embryos die when cows are treated with ovulation/heat synchronizing drugs. No test is better to assure non-pregnancy and relieve error and expense in treating pregnant cows.

Money and time are saved by eliminating embryo death through palpation and drug treatment by the convenience of BioPRYN®.
